Teatro San Carlo

The opulent Teatro San Carlo has announced its interesting programme of their main productions between November 2011 and October 2012. As well as well known operas such as Semiramide, Lucia di Lammermoor, La Bohème and the Pearl Fishers, there is also the opportunity to see the rarely heard I Masnadieri by Verdi.

I Masnadieri (The Bandits) is an outstanding work from Verdi’s early period and this action packed story of highwaymen, robbery, extortion and love received its first performance with Verdi himself conducting at Her Majesty’s Theatre in London in 1847. The distinguished audience included Queen Victoria. Prince Albert and the Duke of Wellington.I Masnadieri, Lucia di Lammermoor and La Bohème are all new productions.

La Bohème-Puccini. May 18^th, 19^th, 20^th, 25^th, 26^th and 27^th. 2012

The Pearl Fishers-Bizet. October 19^th and 21^st. 2012

It is a pity that the programming of one opera repeated several times in one month makes seeing two operas impossible on a short visit but there is much to be seen in and around Naples; there is Pompeii, Herculaneum, the Royal Palace, Sorrento and Capri.
