Teatro Rossini
Pesaro
Pesaro is a seaside town in Northern Italy on the Adriatic Coast and each year it celebrates its most famous citizen, Gioachino Rossini with a summer festival of his operas. Strong casts are a feature of the festival, in 2016 there wiere performances from Erwin Schrott as Selim in Il Turco in Italia and from Juan Diego Florez in concert and as Giacomo V in La Donna del Lago. In the 2018 Festival Juan Diego Florez will sing in Ricciardo e Zoraide. Two venues are used for the performances, the Teatro Rossini which was inaugurated by Rossini himself in 1855 and the Adriatic Arena built in 1996.
Unlike many other summer festivals in Italy all the performances are held indoors in air-conditioned buildings. Special free coaches are provided during the festival to get visitors from their hotels to the operas and back.
As well as the attractions of Pesaro, visitors can also enjoy a visit to the nearby walled city of Urbino, a World Heritage Site with a great legacy of Renaissance architecture.
